LSI is looking for a Head of Supply Chain Logistics & Distribution Procurement to lead a global team within LSI Supply Chain and is in charge of strategic sourcing for 60 - 80 MCHF of logistics and warehousing spend. You will drive supply chain expertise through an understanding of supply markets & trends, cost drivers and innovation, as well as the impact to LSI’s business model. The position is responsible for leading LSI’s US procurement of rail transport, trucking, air freights and warehousing with a strong emphasis on optimizing the full supply chain, driving supplier performance and developing contingency plans for the critical parts of the supply chain network.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering on the overall business goals and specific supply chain goals; develop and provide appropriate coaching of individual team members to unfold their growth potential and to become a cohesive and high performing team.

  • Define and implement the procurement strategy for logistics and warehousing services – as integrated parts of the overall LSI Supply Chain and through close collaboration with regional supply chain and operations teams – setting priorities on supply surety, cost competitiveness, as well as creating the appropriate flexibility and level of responsiveness within the supply chain network.

  • Analyze and interpret business requirements, spend information as well as future demand plans; develop and maintain market understanding and working knowledge of supply economics, processes and cost drivers for the relevant external services portfolio, including staying abreast of new technologies; match internal demand with market insights into actionable strategies for the assigned spend bucket including supplier relationships.

  • Manage the commercial relationship with key service providers for ocean and rail transport, trucking, air freights and warehousing, including third party (3PL) and fourth party logistics providers (4PL); lead evaluation and selection of supplier and service providers, negotiations with vendors (including bidding processes, supply contracts and service level agreements), onboarding of new vendors, and supplier management strategies; provide guidance to the regional supply chain organizations in managing the delegated vendor portfolio.

  • Establish logistics and warehouse provider performance requirements, define and agree with vendors on appropriate metrics and KPI's; drive continuous process improvements of selected vendors in service quality, efficiency, reliability, cost competitiveness, and total cost of ownership; review supplier performance and impact in LSI's supply chain network, manage supplier communication paying particular attention to EHS, quality and commercial compliance.

  • Deeply and periodically assess the supply base to identify risks of supply disruptions within the supply chain; develop risk management strategies and drive development and implementation of appropriate risk mitigation plans; drive awareness of active supply within the organization, work closely with business stakeholders to understand business impact, and lead resolution plans, including implementing alternate sources of supply where appropriate.

  • Create collaborative approach of internal business partnering through building cross-functional relationships with other LSI Supply Chain functions such as Planning and Customer Service, as well as with Product Management, Sales, Finance, Legal, Quality and Operations; ensure efficient communication mechanisms and transparent and pro-active communication with stakeholders.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree required, Master Degree preferred in Purchasing, Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business

  • 7+ years’ experience working in strategic sourcing and procurement in the area of logistics and distribution, preferably in Chemical or related industries

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking about Supply Chain related challenges with an equally strong execution and implementation mindset

  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills; self-starter able to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, navigate and be successful in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment

  • Deep understanding of procurement processes including commodity management, supplier management, negotiations, and contract management

  • Excellent communication skills in English required, other language skills advantageous

  • Excellent interpersonal, customer relationship, presentation, time management, organizational, as well as written and oral communication skills
