Senior Scientist - Purification R&D

We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Scientist - Purification, to work within our R&D downstream processing team responsible for designing purification screening. In this role, you will have the opportunity to translate scientific innovations into commercial applications. The R&D Group within Lonza consists of scientists and engineers with diverse skill sets working on complex, non-routine, technical research programs.

This lab based role is an exciting role, where you will be given the opportunity to draw on your academic and research experience to design experiments relating to purification screening.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work closely with other groups within R&D to deliver on projects (in particular groups in Cell Culture Development and Analytical R&D)

  • Design, coordinate and execute laboratory studies related to downstream processing

  • Collate, evaluate data and author technical reports with scientifically supported conclusions

  • Actively keep informed of relevant academic literature in the area of work

  • Contribute ideas and opinions to scientific discussions to aid the development of new technologies

  • Support laboratory organisation and maintenance as well as project-based activity and resource planning

  • Adhere to Environmental, Health and Safety practices; support safety and risk assessments

Key requirements:

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate Degree in Biological Sciences/(Bio)Chemical Engineering/Biological Engineering/Chemistry or have equivalent relevant experience

  • Have In-depth knowledge of protein purification techniques such as chromatography and filtration

  • Experience with use of statistical methods for DOE (design of experiments) design and multivariate data analysis

  • Hands on, practical knowledge of AKTA systems (Essential) or TECAN systems (desirable)

  • Experience of High throughput screening and Chromatography modelling

  • Experience with technology development, evaluation and implementation in bio-processing and / or biotechnology discipline

  • Good working knowledge of protein chemistry and analytical methods for characterisation of biological molecules
